I'm interested in getting one from eBay also.
Can you tell me how was it packed?
How big was the package?
Did you have any problems with customs?

I just do not want to go ahead and then have the package confiscated by customs.

Thanks,

Rodrigo

Hi Rodrigo

Well, I dont know what your customs are like in CR, but I do know that airmail from Asia to CR is very slow. I recommend you see if you can get EMS from China or it may take more than 3 weeks to arrive. I had a friend send some T-shirt to CR from Thailand. He said it was 3 weeks with airmail from here.

Well, I the seller does contact you an make shipping suggestions. She sends in a small box, less than a shoe box size. Packing is shredded paper. I had no issues with Thai customs.

You may need to email her as she has not got any plants on ebay at the moment

By the way, are you up in the cooler areas of CR? This may not like too much heat in the summer and need a bit of a cooler winter to get flowers

Hi Brett!

Thanks for your quick reply.

Yes, mail is a bit slow around here but very reliable.

I just got a Cymbidium lowianum bulb from Thailand and got here (you're right!) 3 weeks after purchasing.
But the bulb arrived in good shape. It was very well packed in wet newspaper in a small box that fitted in my P.O. Box. So it passed "un-noticed".
The Cymb bulbs seem to withstand a long period of "dormancy"

We have a farm in San Jose de La Montaña in Heredia with a cut flower cymb plantation.
It's about 1750 above sea level. Temperatures there range fro a low 11 degrees celsius to a high of 26 in hottest part of year. And the varieties we have seem to bloom there OK during the months of Dec. to Feb.

Here's a picture of our Cymb field in bloom

Thanks for all the info. I'll try to get in touch with the vendor.

Regards,

Rodrigo

Getting things a little back on topic here hahah.. Here are the pics of the plant in flower. Sadly when it bloomed, I killed another two buds when I moved it. So it should have had 10 flowers.

It also seems to be incredibly self fertile
