Default Nutricote

Hello

I just purchased some nutricote 14-14-14 with the intent to use it for my cyms as I am very bad about fertilizing them.

I am hoping someone can advise me how much to use lol

thanks!

I have seen everything from 1/4 tsp to 2 tsp/5-6 inch pot, smaller pots getting less and larger getting more. If you are just looking to use this for Cymbidiums, you might give George Hatfield a call. I think he is using this fertilizer on all of his Cymbidiums.

Just an FYI, depending on where you are in the Bay Area, Nutricote will not dissolve unless your temps are 70 and up.

Most advanced growers have recommended to me, 1 tb/gallon as a top dressing.

Thanks for your replies!
yipperc - I'm in San Jose so 70 degrees won't be a problem pretty soon.

I appreciate the help! I hope this works well for the cyms
thanks again

There are several kinds of Nutricote - so the answer requires several questions. 1. Is it controlled release or timed release? Controlled Release - releases evenly over the entire time period -timed release releases a lot then tapers off over the time period.
2. What is the time period of the Nutricote you bought? Is it 360 day, 180 day or 60 day? The amout of the application depends entirely on the answer.
I have use 180 day controlled release 13-13 -13 at the the rate of 1tsp/gal pot in January - at that rate I need to put another type on in June or July.
A good reference is the Florikan catalog at Florikan | Florida Fertilizer & Horticultural Product Supply | Controlled Release Fertilizer | Lawn & Garden Fertilizer | Sarasota, Florida If your look at the fertilizers you will realize that you asked a much more complicated quention than you might have thought.

thank you!
I have read where it is recommended to use less if it is 'top dressed' as opposed to mixed in the potting mix ?
1 Tbs mixed in?

Has anyone tried using Multicote? It appears to be pretty much identical to Nutricote except it comes in many more configurations than Multicote and is for indoor OR outdoor use. I have a bottle of the 18-6-12 with trace minerals but haven't tried it yet.
