Excellent! I love both the flowers and the photo...is that a reflection in water beneath the plant, or is it glass? Either way, it is a very cool effect.

Are these cool growers?

The reflection comes from my pool, so it's water ...

I think C. lowianum loves warm growing period, but needs cool and almost dry rest before blooming.

Thanks Jouni. I think I'll have to enjoy this guy through others' collections. I don't get a cool enough winter here to get it to grow well. Such as it is...

Hi,
Nice flower and nice picture. I have Cym Veitchii a cross between ebernium X lowianum that blooms well in Florida.
(at least that what the tag says). Really wonder what makes a plant heat tollerant. Have talked to hybridizers and one theory is that plants that like to be cool also have a warm gene in a hybrid. It is a gamble to buy cymbidiums when we live in warm climates but people who can grow and post pictures of cooler growing plants are appreciated. Thank you Jouni.

Hi Joule

Your lowianum is beautiful. I have one too. It was given to me as a couple of sadly neglected old bulbs a few years ago. It flowered for me for the first time this year. I didn't have a name for it till I saw it at a show last week and I love it. Mine gets no special attention. It grows outside under some big pine trees in a pot. Where is yours kept in winter because I am sure it is absolutely freezing where you come from? Anyone who grow orchids in those cold places is very dedicated and deserves a medal.

I also keep mine out in my garden from May to October, allmost in full sun. All my Cymbidiums are still out, but soon i have to carry them to my garrage, the temperature there is +8-14 C
In summer we have a lot of light here in Finland, but summer is short. My greenhouse elongates the growing period significantly, so i am able to cultivate all kinds of orchids here up north.
