My plant is also a monster. But, last year we had a really bad cold spell with temps around 30 degrees (brought plant into garage). After that the chid sent out 5 four foot flower spikes. This year, we had lots more cold again, I left plant on patio, but covered. I guess it was not happy. It has sent out 1 spike (about 4 feet) and it's starting another. I think the cold shocks it into blooming.

Default

Needs hot/humid extremely bright conditions with lots of air movement. As for blooming - after my puppy drug mine all over the backyard and chewed the tops off, it decided it was time to bloom or die. I got 5 spikes in a 2gal pot. Spikes over 2 feet tall. Mine was scriptum x tigrinum.
