Default Browning Flower

I got this Cymbidium from my local Sam's club. It's in a 8 inch pot. I have many other orchid this is my first of this kind. I would like to know what I'm doing wrong. Within a few days of having it the flowers started turning brown. I have a picture of when I first got it and took one of what it looks like today.

Cyms. do like to be on the cool side tho I do put my outside during the summer under a shade house. They are terrestrial so I keep the soil somewhat damp, not drying out completely. Don't know why yours is turning brown so quickly unless it has been blooming for some time before you got it and it is on the down side. Good luck.

Premature browing of the flowers could be several reasons. Could be over watering, too hot, or maybe it just needed to adjust from one environment to another. They are the first thing out in the spring and the last one in the greenhouse in fall. Morning sun okay but should avoid sun between 11:00 - 3:00 which is normally the hottest portion of the day. Mine go to shade house during the summer or you could hang under a tree to protect from sun. Soil shoud be moist but not soggy. Ease up on watering during non growth period (winter). Don't know what else I could tell you. Good Luck

My cymbidiums stay outside all winter long in Jacksonville Florida with a light mist starting at 32 degrees F. .46 is deffinately not too cold. Until 5 years ago I put them all inside I found that placing them inside in heat tended to make flowers brown and fail unless I worked them in slowly. Flowers that stayed outside never have failed me and I have seen Icycles on the spike. I wouldnt want to go much below 25 degrees though. (Around 2000 cymbidiums and I cant put them all inside anymore but plan to cover them when it does get too cold 25 F and below.

The guy who has 2000 Cymbidiums is giving advice to the person who has the Cymbidiums with the browning flowers not asking it.

I do agree though 45 degrees F isn't too cold. That's how cold it gets here at night during the winter. I grow all my Cymbidiums outdoors all year long. I also grow them in indirect bright light.

I'm not sure what to say about the flowers browning out. It doesn't look like it's naturally wilting. The edges of the petals and sepals are browning out uniformly. I would cut the flower spikes and grow outdoors.

They're terrestrials. They can be grown in potting soil or orchid mix.
