Planting Cymbidiums
Default Planting Cymbidiums

I live in Southern California, and have grown Cym in pots successfully for years. I now want to plant them in the ground.

I will plant them on the north side of the house.

How far apart should I plant them?

Riti

Riti, I have never known that to be successful you would do better to leave them in the pot. In matter of fact I have saved a number of Cymbidiums from certain death by advising folks to take them out of the ground and rather grow them in pots . If you still want to give it a try , make sure that the beds are raised and well drained .Cymbids can (depending on where you live ) take the morning sun and afternoon sun But need filtered midday sun . If you are taking plants from a shade-shade house environment ,they will also have to be acclimatized so some additional shading will be required initially .Or try to plant them at a time of the year when the sun is at its weakest.I wish you lots of luck!!
