Default yellow/brown spots on leaf tips

Hi!
I can't believe I'm already having problems with my new orchid! At least I'm pretty sure its nothing I've done. Here's what's up:
The pictures are of the leaf tips of my cymbidium, which I got exactly a week ago as a gift from my mother. She bought herself one as well and is having exactly the same problems, but lives 3 hours north of where I am and uses mineral water for all of her orchids. She has cut her tips off in response, but I wanted to see what you guys thought first.

Conditions: Filtered full sun, kept inside while it blooms, but close to the sliding door which I keep open for most evenings (drops in temp a little). It was allowed to dry out once, but I have kept it from drying out since. I have been watering with tap water left out for a number of days to allow chlorine to dissipate, but plan on getting a fertilizing method down within the next few days.

Any help would be great! Thanks

I had the same issue with all my cymbidiums. Later on I found out that it acctualy wasn't as much of a deal for this is a sign of exposure to the sun. When I sprayed my cymbidiums and exposed them directly to the sun, these little burn-like spots apeared where the driplets of water where. I usually started spraying them later on in the eavening or early morning, when the sun wasn't as strong...

Are those older leaves ? Without seeing the whole plant it makes it difficult to give you an answer. From the second pic i would say that you might have thrips in the area .
Black dots on the leaf tips is usually an indication that you media has become too acid. Either add some Dolomite lime or repot with fresh media . Also how much fertilizer are you feeding ?

Here's a picture of the whole plant. I didn't think it'd be very useful before because it's such a big plant that I had to stand back to take the picture.

I do have a new bag of orchid media sitting in the closet, so I could re-pot. It's currently in something that holds the water a bit better than straight bark.

Thrips could be taken care of with a mild soap solution, right? Can't you normally see them on the leaves though? I can't see any bugs (even up close)

You'll notice that some of the leaves are cut in the picture. That was not me, the plant came that way (suspect it was to fit it into the packaging it came in).

I have not fertilized as of yet, and I know mom does once weekly but with a very mild solution.

Thanks I can take more pictures if this one doesn't do it.

How long have you had that plant ? Did you receive it in that condition. If you did then consider changing your supplier! It has a nice flower but is poorly grown . It needs to be divided and repotted . but don't do anything just yet Take more pics so that i can see how many backbulbs it has.

I've had it for a week. Mom got it for me as a present, so I don't know what the supplier is, I don't think she got it from a professional though, I think she got it at a store.
Will take more pictures after pushing send.

I hope this one is ok. The lighting in here is funny because it's night time and the overhead came through the leaves.
