Question about a Grammatophyllum speciosum Male
Default Question about a Grammatophyllum speciosum

I have a 4 bulb plant that seems to be doing well. It has two new spikes coming up, however, one back bulb shows what appears to be a small new pseudo bulb, about one inch tall. Then other day when I checked, the top 1/4" or so of the new pb seemed to be discoloring. Today the little bulb seems to be rotting as it's all discolored.

My question is, have any of you experienced this with this plant? I try to water it well because it's supposed to like lots of water when growing. It resides in a clay pot. The spikes are growing well, but my little PB seems to be gone. Any ideas?

What are your temperatures and humidity? How much light is it getting? What is the potting medium? How are you watering and fertilizing?

Sorry for leaving out a "few" details. 😁 It's in a GH where it gets very bright light but no sun. It's in a clay pot that gets watered well. The medium is damp but not soggy. Daytime temps, when the sun is out, are in the 80s to low 90s. Nighttime temps could be the problem because we did have a few nights which went down to the mid 40s.

It's strange because the rest of the plant is doing great.

It's a warm to hot grower. The things that come to mind when new growths die are insufficient water, calcium deficiency and temperature out of range.
