Default Where do I put my new Cymbidium?

Hi there!
I just got a few new orchids to start up my collection once again (birthday present).
One of them is a Cymbidium, but I don't know what kind...that's all the tag said. I can tell you it's of the larger variety.
I'm having some problems with the things I've read about them though...mostly their temperatures. I'm currently in zone 6a (wow! What a move from 4b where I used to be!) and I don't know how to provide the temps it needs.
I live in an apartment on the main floor, which means I get lots of indirect sunlight. I don't want to put it outside on my deck right now, as it's in flower and I don't want it stolen, but it is a possibility once it finishes (because it'll just look like a tropical plant at that point).
I have another window which gets more light, and I will have an air conditioner running in that room once it gets warm enough....but I also have a cat that likes to eat/dig up/generally destroy my plants and she has access to the same sill.

Any thoughts?

Don't be putting it outside because then you wont be able to see its beauty as much! Give it a few more days, it'll obsess you........

Seriously, I'm just a beginner (1 months experience!) so my advice is in no way authoritative, but from what I've read and been advised they need about 50%-70% filtered sun and good air movement but protection from cool droughts.

Here's my as I've only had my Cym two years. I keep mine outside during the warmer months from mid may to early october, when the temperature goes to about 5°C at night. It's the difference between day and night temperatures which helps initiate blooming of the following year. If you keep it indoors it is more difficult to get that differential. I think you could do the same after it finishes blooming. Being so far north, I don't think it is necessary to use a shade cloth. Full sun should be fine. FYI, I'm pretty far south in France, and mine gets direct sunlight nearly all day, except between 12 and 3pm during the summer, which is the hottest time of day. The rest of the year keep it by the brightest window you have.
Don't forget to fertilize every watering, these guys are pigs!!
