Many orchids are starting to be grown from seed using the cardboard method. Cardboard is soaked in rainwater for a week or 2, then incorporated into a mix suitable for the orchids you want to grow. The cellulose in the cardboard provides a food source for the fungi necessary for germination and early development of the orchids. I'm not aware of Cymbidium specifically being grown this way, but given the ease of the method it would be worth a try.
