Cymbidium name
Default Cymbidium name

I just received a division of a Cym from our city park greenhouse and the only name given was a common name of Cym Praying Nun. It is a Cym and not a Phaius. Does anyone know the genus/species name?

The genus is Cymbidium. The grex or hybrids in the cross of an unnamed one (I'm sure it's' a hybrid) is unknown and will stay unknown... even when it blooms, there are enough hybrids that look similar that it's extremely doubtful that an ID will be possible. ("Praying Nun" is not a registered name) But then, the care for Cyms is pretty much the same for all of them. And here's hoping for flowers. With or without a name, few orchids can match Cyms for flower displays.

The "praying nun" epithet does sort of sound like what Cym erythrostylum looks like. When it blooms, we'll know...
