Another faithful plant, early winter bloomer, long lastig, middle to big flowers, appleblossom rose, with distinct markings and contrasting yellow calluses.

As all my noid Cymbis, there is hardly any scent noticeable. I wonder if a backcross with a scented species would do the trick.

Actually, there are not all that many fragrant Cym hybrids. (I have a lot, most of them do have registred names) A few of the early-blooming ones, but that's about it. Depends on parentage... if they have a lot of fragrant species like ensifolium or tracyanum in their background it may come through. But I have found that fragrance is the delightful exception, not the rule. They have other charms... lots of flowers, last for 4-6 weeks or more, bloom when little else is blooming, tolerate both heat and cold... I can forgive lack of fragrance.

Yes, they already come with a lot of pros, that is true ... As I have a flowering erythraeum right now, with an attractive fragrance, I wondered if ... I'd prefer to use hookerianum as a parent, but there is no way for me to get one.
I like Cymbidium with a 'wildish' look; too round, too overlapping, too big or a reddish that turns black does not get my attention. The nursery plants sold here, always without name, often have unclear colours or do not open well.

Perhaps I'll give it a try. There are three more Cymbidium beginning to flower soon (one yellow, one reddish and one still unknown), so I can select a promising parent and cross it with erythraeum.

I have Cym erythraeum x erythrostylum (which is fragrant and quite lovely) ... Cym. That is an interesting outcome as erythrostylum has very peculiar flowers. Very charming!
