1st year with them! cymbidium

Cymbidium buds can tease you for several months. You have only had the plant for a month? That is not nearly enough time to evaluate anything! I have had the experience, multiple times, where the spike produces buds in November or earlier, then it just sits there. And I'm biting my nails for a February show, wondering if I will have anything open for my display. I walk past the plants chanting "Bloom! Bloom!" (By the way, it doesn't do any good...) They do or they don't. Orchids perversely bloom right after a show or club meeting.

With your new plants, you will learn a lot by just observing. They will do what they will do when they "want" to do it. After you have observed some number of plants through their cycle, you will then know what is and what is not normal. Cymbidum buds sitting there for a long time is normal. Orchids teach patience.

Hi Sade, just saw your post 10 days ago that the flowers still hadn't opened. I think from your earlier picture they should be ready anytime soon.
I just had to admire the beautifully grown plants you have again. Hope your flowers are ok.

Well I can't repot until I witness their graceful true faces. That is what's testing my patience....

You shouldn't repot until spring anyway. (I have found that repotted Cyms are less likely to miss a year of bloominhg if they are repotted somewhat later... I do repotting until August or thereabouts.) Being impatient is not going to bring Spring any faster... it's still going to happen in about the 3rd week of March.

Hi Shade... Yes!! This week finally the yellow, I still have the wine and pink to open the buds 😍

Rose, I know you really, really want to repot. Resist the impulse for 3 or 4 months...no matter how crowded, it doesn't want to be repotted in the dead of winter
