Cymbidium ensifolium and Cymbidium sinenese belong to the Jensoa Section. I have a collection of Japanese C. goeringii and they bloom every year (they all have buds again this year). To grow them properly, they must be potted in the East Asian Cymbidium Potting Mix which is composed of hard Kunuma, baked akadama, and satsuma in a predetermined ratio. This is the standard materials to grow them. If you use any other materials, if they survive, they don't bloom. I think it's the pH, and moisture balance of the materials. All East Asian Cymbidiums including C. ensifolium and C. sinense are best grown between pH 5.5-6.8. They should not be fertlized often. I only use slow release fertlizer for East Asian Cymbidiums. The pellet is good for 6 months and I apply only once in the spring.
C. ensifolium is the easiset one, spring and fall, keep it between 20C-25C, in the summer, keep it between 25C-30C. In the winter, keep it between 15C-20C.
C sinense is more difficult, spring and fall, keep it between 17C-23C, in the summer, between 25C-30C, and in the winter, keep it between 10C-15C.
They need very little light, morning sun only, do not give them sunlight pass 11:30am.
You want to grow them outdoor as much as possible.They hate indoors.
Humidity should be always between 50%-70%, they hate low humidity.
Watering, when it is grown in the East Asian Cymbidium Mix, I only water the Cymbidiums when the pot is dry (just feel the weight of the pot).
