good new pot for a big cymbidium? Male

Missed this thread originally. I have had good results with:

HD rubber type pots from perennials or fruit trees.
2-3" of clay pot shards on the bottom.
An 'open' terrestrial mix (3 parts chunky peat, 2 parts composted manure, 1 part bark & 1 part perlite).

I can no longer get the chunky peat (I would have to buy a truck load to get it), so this year I have switched to cedar mulch + the other 3 components. So far this mix seems to work well.

I only use the skinny Cymbidium pots for small divisions of slender growing plants, such as Cym Sweetheart (see photo).

DC: Look for the few hot-growing species like the Australian natives and the Malaysian Cym. chlorantha. I got an alba chlorantha at the Tamiami show in 2018. Also a lot of Cyms with these in their ancestry do well in warm weather.

Whohoo! Just found some big fat spikes on Cym. Chen's Ruby. (Not sure how they snuck up me, but big enough to stake, even) One of the warm-blooming ones, flowers within a month or so, I think. That particular plant needed to be repotted this year... didn't happen, not going to do it now. Maybe in December or January.

Sounds like you need one of these.

quick update~

so i hate the base i made for these...while it is exceptional at holding the pots upright it is annoying for 1,385 other reasons (approximately)

however- i really like the pot- so does the plant, seemingly. What is came up with was half creative organizing and half ingenuity- but it all works …

i moved the nobiles to a more covered area bc they were wasting the lath house space getting burned and i moved the catts to more sun so i slipped the cyms right there- they will get a bit less sun which i think is better as they were a bit toasty, and thetall pots are easily wired and tied.

they are quite secure and the pots are great- there are new roots visible in the air holes and its been less than a month
