Many of us like compact orchids because they fit nicely into growing spaces like windowsills and tanks, plus you have room for more of them. While I love minis, most of my favorite plants are the BIG ones. Here are my favorites in no particular order: 1) Vandopsis gigantea; 2) Vandopsis lissochiloides; 3) Dimorphorchis lowii; 4) Vanda merrillii and 5) Vanda suavis.

What are you five favorite BIG orchids?

One of my first orchids ever was Den. Gatton Sunray. It's also the one I will always make the exception for, and make room in my collection. It is very tolerate of minor neglect, and is an exceptionally dependable bloomer given the correct winter over.

I had to look this one up...it is gorgeous! The colors are fabulous. I have seen a similar den in pink at my orchid society's meeting. Dendrobiums aren't my strong suit. Although, based on your summary, I may need to give this one a try.

How big are we talking here?

My two favorites of the biggest plants in my collection are Miltassia Shelob 'Tolkien' and Oncidium Sharry Baby.

My Vanda Luzonica and Noid Vanda are both VERY large but they are also wonderful and worth the space. My Miltassia Estrileta Sweet Señorita is also getting there.

I actually prefer the full size plants myself I seem to enjoy the blooms more! The mini's blooms are too small for my taste.

As big as you like! I left it up to each person's discretion, no wrong answers here!

And you can even pick plants that you don't own, but the ones in your collection are great choices.
