My parrot loves phals too. He likes to snip their spikes and make holes in the leaves. At first I thought I had crickets or grasshoppers. He doesn't eat the orchids he just mutilated them. He's mostly gotten over it, thankfully!

*facepalm*
i meant to vote for the pleurothallis alliance. picked my least favorite genre instead. XD
how could you NOT love the pleurothallis alliance? masdevallias, draculas, lepanthes, pleurothallis, porroglossum-- these puppies rock my world! so much color, so much morphological variation!
though i am a huge sucker for oxyglossum dendrobiums too.

I honestly couldn't choose, I have some from many of the ones there and am coveting plants frm the ones I am currently lacking. I love them all for different reasons. I love catts for their big, showy in your face flowers, oncids/odonts for their masses of colour, vandas and pleurothallids for their vibrancy, paphs, stanhopeas, etc for their unusual flowers and I love the smaller bulbophyllums, dendrobiums, etc for their understated beauty. How could anyone really choose!

I agree about not being able to choose. Vandas are fantastic, of coarse. But they are all beautiful in their own way. I can't have just vandas. I want some of everything!

I am going to have to go with my first love - Cattleya alliance. The first orchid I got was a beautiful Lavender Cattleya, from Fox River Orchids. The scent was indescribable and the blooms were perfect in my mind. From that time one, no matter what beauty I find, I still compare it to the first one I had.
Something nostalgic perhaps? Regardless, I agree it is hard to find just one "Favorite", or even a favorite within each category. That's why I chose the first orchid I owned, as it holds a special place in my heart. Oh, if my mother had any idea what she was starting with that one orchid...................

Ooh, because it's divided up like OB I had to pick one of two. Mine is Cypripedium including cyps, phrags, and paphs, but I choose "Cyps - Others" because I find the actual cyps a bit more fascinating.
