I see that the picture number 1 is winning this year but seriously it's nowhere near the best quality picture or flowering.......I guess quality is not always the winner.

It's really disheartening to see such a poor loser attitude on this forum and this competition. The winning photo is mine by the way and I really don't appreciate such a negative critique of it. There is a proper way to critique something and yours is not it. I'm glad you are not an orchid judge in our country.
This competition was about having fun and finding the most appealing amateur photos for a calendar. It wasn't about the best grown orchid. Artwork is subjective and one time a photo will win hands down and another time it will not. In this democratic vote, the winning photo was chosen by many voters and had a strong win. That should be enough said.
If you have something ugly to say this is not the place. It just ruins the chances of Marty wanting to have any more competitions when such poor sports have to whine and insult others.

congrats to all the winners! i also hate to see all the negativity. i wasn't aware this was supposed to be a 'professional' photography contest. if it was, i wouldn't have entered.
mine was #62, Brassavola Little Stars. i missed the top 13 by 2 votes, lol! oh well, there's always next time.

Is it ok to ask for some identification and names on some of these orchids?
I've seen a bunch that I would like to put on my wishlist.
If anyone can tell me the names of the following I'd be a very happy girl....

nr. 60 : Dendrobium victoria reginae (mine)
nr. 87: Sedirea japonica
nr. 91: Zygopetalum

I agree....its sad to see all the negativity. I was suprised and delighted to see that two photos of mine made it. I'm not sure if I made the final 13 but it was still fun and I saw a lot of wonderful pics. It was really hard to choose.

Thanks Cattleya17! I loved #65 as well. Our orchids are all special to us and I thought every photo had appeal and it was very hard to choose. I rarely ever win anything so it was a thrill to win 1st. For what it's worth, #2 was mine also and it didn't win a calendar page. But that's fine. It's just nice to have these things that bring people together a bit more.

Silken your photo is gorgeous and deserving. It wouldn't have gotten the votes if it wasn't. Well done. Looking forward to having it hang in my house.
