Bud, the current calendar August page is not on black background. It seems to be bright blue sky just like you do. And even July could just be the dark interior of the plant, not black velvet. May of this calendar was another month that had green leaves not black for a background.

Yes, participation seems to be down this year. To couple the problem, we're getting a lot of submissions that aren't of either the quality or resolution that would fit the print (That seems to be typical every year though). We're also getting some amazing photos (also typical every year . I'll be leaving with the family on a long awaited cottage trip to do some fishing with the kids and I don't envision finalizing anything on this contest, so perhaps I should do something to entice few more people and get the participation going. I know you guys have the photos. Calendar grew into an annual event, so I think we should continue the tradition. It's the summer and everyone is busy with life. We have started this contest earlier than normal, so that's perhaps why the reduced participation levels. I think slight modification of rules and prizes is in order.

EXTENDED to AUG 2nd
2 Photos now allowed per person
Not only the top 2 will get the free calendar, but all 13 who are featured in the calendar will receive a free copy! Should bring out few more people out of the woodwork

COOL! HOPE WE GET MORE PARTICIPANTS! im going to get a miltoniopsis from the greenhouse i work at thursday. its so awesome and a striking white flower with a really dark burgundy, almost black, lip marking
