That would be multiple times a day for me. All of mine are grown outdoors so I keep a close lookout for squirrel damage or the onset of insects and disease. I'm pratically OCD when it comes to my chids.

When I just started orchids, and I had five sitting on one table, I checked them multiple times a day. Yes, very obsessively. Now that I have many, many more orchids, I don't have the time to individually check each one. I check most of them every 3-4 days. There are ones I check every day--ones in bloom, finicky species, and new acquisitions.

I agree with Sii! I too check my orchids, then check the OB, then back to the orchids, and so on until it's time to go to bed, lol... For some reason, I keep thinking I'll see something different! Though, this routine has helped me spot things that I would have otherwise missed, such as possible issues and infestations.

I quickly check mine before work and then It helps me to wind down when I get home. I also check them after dinner, during commercials, and if I have a spat with the wife, half time of a Miami Dolphin game, and it gets worse if I have a scented orchid in bloom. Since I have 14 flowers on my B. nodosa. I'm spending a lot time out their at night.

I voted for once a week but I give my plants a brief glancing at whenever I water, that might be everyday in summer or every 2 or 3 weeks in winter. I might have a closer look every couple of weeks or if I notice obvious problems.

Where's the option for at LEAST a hundred times a day?
Correct. Especially when one of your special babies is in spike, mostly rare and hard to bloom ones.

Hmm, I've gone for once a day, which is probably right on average. I like to go around the house picking them up and looking either before I start work or before I go to bed. It's primarily a way to clear my head (- it's amazing how long you can spend in leaf-gazing-meditation)

I voted for once a day, but sometimes it's more sometimes not at all.

Gloria's comments actually sum up me very well.

For me apart from odd days when I wake up late and don't have time at least some of the orchids are checked every day while watering. I have those that need daily watering (mounted) and they get a check over while I'm watering. Others are watered in batches on different cycles of days. This means some days only a few need doing, other days lots need doing, but again they are always checked while being watered.

Anything notable as I'm watering (new leaves, new spikes, reasons for concern etc) is recorded on a Dictaphone then entered in my journal later.

Then somewhere between once a month and twice a week I may check and photograph some of them in the evening. How much this happens really depends on how I'm feeling, how busy I am, and whether I noted something in the morning that needed a closer look.

Yeah I didn't think that there was a clear answer but at least a few OB'ers have a life. (other then orchids.)

....and even though I am in the greenhouse every morning, every evening and in and out throughout the day...it never ceases to amazing me how quickly things can change for both better and worse!
