in my opinion it would make sense that the next poll will be pick the favorite 3 out of 10 plants and then we have a poll where we pick the favorite 1 out of 3.
otherwise you will get an unfair polling in my opinion

That's exactly what I was thinking. To me that seems to be the most logical way to do it.

Dave's call. I'm fine either way.
Or just pick the winner of a top ten poll, and not do the top three out of those.

Well i think we should do multiple polling because it might end up the winner being against some people likes.
I.E i would dislike it myself also if a certain one would win.
We will need to do another poll anyway since some of the plants have the same amount of votes

whether you pick 1 out of 20, 1 out of 10, 1 out of 5 or 1 out of 2, you will always have at least one person who willnot be 100% satisfied with the final decision...
however, I think part of the game here is to get the plant selected, no matter if it is my favorite plant or not and try to grow it... also, the idea is that no matter whether you already have the plant or not, you get a new one, in order to have everybody aligned (it makes no sense 19 people with a newly bought plant competing against 1 who has a plant already stablished since 1 or more years...)
e.g. I have already 11 of the plants in the current poll, and don't really like 7 of the plants in the poll (including two that I already have!). However, no matter which plant is selected at the end, I will buy one and grow it under my conditions to show how it works for me to the rest ofthe group...

I think the plan was that this one picks 10 then we go in to another round.
It doesn't work to pick the top 1 from this poll. What if everyone put Paphiopedilum delenatii down but it was their 10th choice out of 10. Then it could win when actually none of the people who voted for it would have put it first.
I think the only fair way is that if everyone has chosen 10, we now take the top 10 then start a new vote from those.

Exactly. But from here, if we do only 1 more poll with the 10, I think that each person should vote for their top 2-3. Because with 10 plants and roughly 20 people, we're probably going to end up with ties if it's 1 vote per person.
Or we do like previously mentioned, and pick 3 of 10 then 1 of 3.
