Marty, congrats for the Posting Contest idea! The last days I received lots of e-mails alerts about new posts in threads (and I posted a lot too!). Unfortunately several are (like this one!) only to 'make numbers'! But your idea - intended to increase the number of posts in the board - works perfectly!

It's not really about increasing posts, it's more about engaging people in a conversation and increasing the participation. Majority are very interesting posts with very little fluff. Except for the one above I guess :P

And of course adding a little levity to the fluff is acceptable too isn't it?

I'm new, does it count that I don't know what I'm posting about?

I thought there is a minimum length of the posts, 25 characters or more. But the minimum length set as only one character. Why?

Rules are simple. Most posts win !
Monthly Winners
Top Poster #1 - $150 coupon towards a Misting System for your orchids!!! Sponsored by MistKing.com
Top Poster #2 - $75 Gift Certificate to " The Orchid Shop" generously donated by Kris Varga
Top Poster #3 - $50 Gift Certificate to Robert Bedard Horticulture by Robert Bedard (rbedard)
Weekly Top Posters will receive 2007 OrchidBoard calendars ! (You can win a weekly prize only once, if you're the top poster over 2 or more weeks, the next week, the prize will go to the 2nd top poster, etc). Calendars are sponsored by Chesterfield Orchid Company
If you win a weekly prize, you're still in the running for one of the top 3 prizes to win at the end of April.
Last contest the Mods and Admins were excluded, this time they're welcomed to participate if they choose to.
Please make sure that the posts are meaningful, no fluff or filler posts. For the month of April we're turning on minimum post length to even out the playing field.
GOOD LUCK !!!! We hope to see some new faces posting
To check the top posters click here - Also available from the "QUICK LINKS" on the Forum Menu
NOTE: We now have a cool new feature, so post those photos! (btw, you need to be logged in to see the functionality of this cool feature)

Marty, if a non-USA poster were to win the 3rd most poster prize of the Gift Certificate to RB Horticulture could they request it be given to the 4th most poster and get a calendar instead?

we can figure something out to accomodate everyone. In either case, even if you're from remote parts of Mongolia, we will saddle up a yak and try to send out the prize patrol over to you
1st calendar goes to Shadow! All prizes will be sent out once the contest is over, since some calendar winners may also place as one of the top prize winners.
