Yeap, your plant and your picture are lovelly... maybe the picture is not perfect (I agree with Ross here), but I think for most of us, not being professional photographers, and just wanting to share our hobby, it is a great picture... or you think it would have been the number one, if the people had not liked it?
...and I am more than confident that you (as well as me and all others here) will improve your technique and next year we all will have magnifique pictures...
...and for all newbies and amateurs, do not
get scared with the quality of the pictures!!! We all know that the idea of the Calendar in OB is to share our hobby and pictures, have fun and also be an active part of this community
but we cannot forget that it is also a way to gain some funds for OB to stay alive!!! So, it is needed that the quality of it becomes higher and higher everytime, in order to be able to sell the calendars even to people who did not joined the contest
So, once I have said that: STAND UP!! MOVE YOUR ... ehh... PLANTS AND CAMERAS AND START SHOOTING
You have one year to practice and get espectacular pictures for next year
