Yeap, your plant and your picture are lovelly... maybe the picture is not perfect (I agree with Ross here), but I think for most of us, not being professional photographers, and just wanting to share our hobby, it is a great picture... or you think it would have been the number one, if the people had not liked it?
...and I am more than confident that you (as well as me and all others here) will improve your technique and next year we all will have magnifique pictures...

...and for all newbies and amateurs, do not get scared with the quality of the pictures!!! We all know that the idea of the Calendar in OB is to share our hobby and pictures, have fun and also be an active part of this community but we cannot forget that it is also a way to gain some funds for OB to stay alive!!! So, it is needed that the quality of it becomes higher and higher everytime, in order to be able to sell the calendars even to people who did not joined the contest So, once I have said that: STAND UP!! MOVE YOUR ... ehh... PLANTS AND CAMERAS AND START SHOOTING You have one year to practice and get espectacular pictures for next year Any questions regarding tips and technique, place them here in OB, we have several great photographers here who would be glad to help...

Well said, Ramon

I don't look for perfection in the photos submitted...I look for the orchids that make me feel like

If I wanted or needed to see perfect photos, I'd be on a photography forum. If I want to see lovely orchids and share the excitement with my friends...I'll stay right here at the best place on earth...

well... actually, I do look for perfection, and that's why I try to improve my technique too and that's also why I encourage everybody here to do the same...

...but I know where I am and also know we have a GREAT potential here with all our members

I'm not saying we shouldn't strive to do our best...but we're orchid lovers, not photographers

So then you have to ask yourself.....do you go with the one that took a lucky snapshot of a pretty flower, but didn't really take the time to make it right? Or do you go with the one that had a goal in mind, and probably shot pictures until the goal was acheived? I see what you're saying Ramon, it is supposed to be "calendar material". I thought one of them looked like a major photoshop color job, which I wasn't aware was allowed....but I could be wrong. I don't really care, but I tried not to tamper with the pic....ya know, natural.

Let's keep in mind...
this is supposed to be fun

Whether somebody got a lucky shot or worked at it doesn't matter...

what matters is that the voters had a number of beautiful photos to choose from and a winner was chosen.
Seems to me that a tiny little blurry spot on the edge of a leaf was, and is, insignificant.

As we can all see, we've each got our own opinions...now let's get back to

ORCHIDS!!!

I totally agree....that wasn't bitter, I was just telling Ramon that I see what he's sayin' . I am pleased with the outcome, I think we'll have a beautiful calendar!
