Default Pears are in Season!!!

Which means it's my favorite season! Because of my favorite fruit, and the wonderful season of Autumn.

I found this wonderful pie recipe the other day on one of my haunts (allrecipes.com), and had to share.

Fresh Pear Pie Recipe - Allrecipes.com

Anybody else love pear season? What do you guys do with them?
There's nothing like a perfectly ripe pear.

I love pears too, but buying them perfectly ripe is virtually impossible in this mad refrigerated age - and they just don't ripen properly at home once they have been through that transportation process.

We have a Farmers market tomorrow, I'll look there!

I hope you find some! A friend of mine just came back from a festival in NE where she was able to get some fresh from the orchard. I can't wait to bake some up this weekend.

me too!!!!!!! they are fab raw & go perfectly well with cheese.. a 'bit' of pear and a 'bit' of cheese in the mouth...chew...
otherwise cooked in red wine is always a winner...
and if you want to bake... a Tarte 'Tatin' aux poires....
tarte tatin is usually made with apples... and is basically an 'upside down' pastry. Caramelised fruit over a flakey pastry... Yummy!!!!
If anyone is interested I'll post the recepie.

Why don't you post it over on Recipe #2? I'd give it a try.

:X I wish I liked canned fruit- those sound great! I can't take the texture though.

What do you do with the canned ones? Those sound like ice cream toppings!

Alligator pears! They're a staple in my house. We have guacamole at least twice a month.
