Strange Foods
Just thought I'd ask what are some of the strange or weird foods that you've tried.
I'll start first... lil background - I did grow up in Eastern Europe and when we bought beef or pork from the farm/butcher, it was usually the whole animal. My dad was a hobby butcher himself, so he'd always make all kinds of stuff and he'd smoke meats himself (sausages, loins, bacons, hams, head cheese, etc). He had a real knack for it and all the stuff was amazing. He'd dress the animal, but there was still a lot of stuff that didn't go into any of the products.... I do remember eating sandwiches made with cooked brains, stuff made from kidneys, tongue, pork feet, blood pudding, and more ...oh, ya pierogi stuffed with a filling made out of ground up lungs - I have to say, that even though it sounds strange it was all delicious. Now that I'm all grown up, I'm much more aware of what I eat
I also had sugar coated ants from a Columbian friend
hm... let me see what else
- green scrambled eggs in the jungle from some parrot
- pekari (jungle pig)
- piranhas that I caught myself in the Amazon
- Guinea pig
- I was offered tapir and monkey, but refused, it was too weird

Chicken feet soup. Yummm yumm. Haven't had it since I was 4 years old though.
I had a freeze dried meal worm last month, I bought it at the American Museum of Natural History. Did not taste good.

I am asian so you can imagine of all the percieved wierd things I've eaten. It's funny how fear factor uses asian food in their stunts sometimes.

Yes indeed. I found it amusing that you could get soup with pig's uterus at the Hong Kong airport. Tindo, chicken feet there were like boneless skinless chicken breast to us.
few pics I snapped of the street vendors in downtown Hong Kong. I was stuffing myself with everything. Food overthere (esp the dumplings) were to die for!

Sue, Hong Kong has amazing food. Don't be afraid to try different things and don't settle for the hotel food (although it will probably be great too), go out and eat everywhere. It's very clean and very high tech, nothing to worry about.

More like leave your stomach at the door
Hell, there is quite a bit of stuff from around here that I wouldn't touch. First of all, I am not eating anything that is watching me eat it, and I don't care what it is. I refuse to eat raw eggs or meat. I will not eat the private parts of any animal, I don't eat raw oysters and I don't eat raw fish. They call it sushi, I call it bait.
