I received this plant on about May 2016; I immediately repotted it (breaking couple of roots in the process) and the plant was like just sitting in the basket like sulking child doing nothing. In later about October, the plant finally began to grow new roots and two new pseudobulbs began to emerge. Then the flower spike appeared in late December and the buds began to open yesterday.

I've read that Coel. assamica is supposed to be summer or autumn blooming species. Perhaps repotting shock has somehow messed up the plant's natural life cycle? Hmm.

Still, quite amazing flower. I like the shape and the brown markings on the lip is great.

I love coelogynes! (I just can't grow most of them from my high summer temps and low humidity) didn't know about this species... that's a great come back! love the markings on the lip! The translucence of the petals/sepals combined with the markings are really striking!

A nice surprise...this flower has scent.
While Coel. assamica is not known for the fragrance, my particular plant has a subtle, yet with quite definite substance, scent! Like a...delicious butter cream flavoured candy...like a butter scotch!

The scent fills my entire balcony (quite a small one though) with sweet tasty smell. It might be very subtle, possibly some people would never notice, but to me it is really there.

The Full Bloom.

Flowers are all facing same direction. Neat.

Droplets of nectar on the lip.
Interestingly, nectaries appear to be on the surface of the lips as two parallel ridges.
