Newly acquired Coelogyne Usitana, lost leaves and spots - Orchid Board

I picked up this plant from an out of town show preorder, so I did not see the condition of the plant ahead of time. I'm a bit worried that it's on the latter half of an untimely demise.

It looks like the oldest bulb is blackened and dried out, it's not mushy in any way. One has a bit of a brown spot and it only has two leaves, one which was cut. The seller doesn't appear to have any more in stock, so I'd like to see if I could bring this one back to life.

Any help as to which steps I should take would be appreciated!

I don't know what the black bulb is about... the rest of it looks similar to my usitana seedling, which I think is in good shape. Hopefully someone chimes in, as this plant is new to me, so maybe I can learn something.

Check out Coelogynes.com .I've had mine about 3 yrs and was repotted last yr from s/m to small Orchiata bark in clay pot. They like enuf water so as not to have shriveling of pbulbs and it sits on edge of lights or in semi-shaded south window.Spikes will arise from center of leaf whereas other Coel. will spike from bottom of mature bulb.A wonderful genus!

I can only offer generic advice since I'm new to this species (and genus).

Keep an eye on that spot. If it's growing, cut the pbulb away with a sterile implement and cinnamon the exposed tissue. All the pbulbs looks skinny but looks like a new growth has started. The new growth is the one that will get plump.

FWIW, I grow mine in s/h in Phal light.

I only recently purchased my first coelogyne, so I'm nowhere near expert on these, but I think the plant looks to be OK. Good luck, I hope you get some nice bloom in the future!

How long have you had it in S/H? Does it seem to be doing alright? I was thinking about trying S/H on a Coelogyne but some people seem to think they ramble too much. I'm pretty new to the genus myself, so...

I've had it in s/h more than 6 months (had it less than a year) and it's doing fine, grew two pbulbs w/leaves in that time and two more started recently. I don't have a reference for this species conventionally grown so I don't know if that is slow/normal/fast.
