I just got a bunch of divisions of this plant from a member in my society who is moving away. She gave a brief care sheet on the plant, but I am still curious as to how others grow this. I cannot find a lot of information on it out there. Can anybody tell me their very specific growing conditions? Temps, humidity, light, media, air movement, etc? I am considering trying each division in SH, bark mix, and spaghnum. Suggestions?

It is probably one of the least picky of all the Coelogynes. I have been growing this plant for several years now and it's a weed. No lie...I have to take a hacksaw to it about every 3 yrs.

It likes a lot of light...just not mid-day direct sun. Temperature tolerant...can do well cool to hot. It likes a lot of moisture most of the year.

In the summer I water it about every day and in the winter it gets watered 2-3 times a week. I've grown it in straight sphag in a net basket, a mix of sphag/chc/chunky bits in clay, sheet moss in plastic...and all sets up produced strong roots growth and lots of new growths.

My plant had outgrown a 10" basket last spring and I divided it into 5 pieces...and all 5 pieces bloomed this past winter. Reliable December/January bloomer. It's a weed...a beautiful weed...but a weed.

Here's the pic of mine taken Jan '14...before the division...

This is a pale form of the hybrid, C. intermedia. Not C. glandulosa which is not in cultivation. In fact C. glandulosa has most likely never existed and was a specimen of C. nervosa that was mis-identified.

If you want cultural instructions look up C. intermedia (or unchained melody which is the same plant). As katrina says theyre very hard to get wrong and grow like weeds.

I just split one of mine up,

More typical color form of intermedia/unchained melody.

Thank you both very much! I am glad to hear they grow like weeds. A welcome addition to my fledgling collection. The person I got it from had it on display at our show at the beginning of this month and it was huge and the flowers smelled very nice. I can't wait for it to become a nuisance! I have found a lot more information on C. intermedia. Thanks again!

Confused here! Are you saying my glandulosa isn't a glandulosa but rather a nervosa? Or are you saying it's an Intermedia?

To my eyes...mine doesn't really look exactly like either of those. I'm not doubting your info...just surprised because it's the first time I've heard this.

So, what's the deal w/glandulosa? It possibly never existed? Is there somewhere I can go to read up on this and get more info?

Your 'glandulosa' is allmost certainly intermedia/Unchained melody (these two being the same hybrid). Glandulosa has probably never been in cultivation even if it exists.

Theres some info here,

http://coelogynes.com/Coelogyne%20mossiae%20true.pdf

There are quite a few intermedia clones going around under a variety of names, and yes they may look sllghtly different to one another as you would expect from different parentage or just different gene inheritance (the pale and normal colour forms being two examples).

Same with mossiae, if it is in cultivation, its only in one or two collections at most.
