Beautiful! Mine are still in the fridge, too. When I checked them a couple of weeks ago for the first time since I put them away there were little signs of growth all over. So I am hopeful. Unfortunately it is warmer in the fridge than almost anyplace else these days.


Anyone else ready for spring??????????

I am curious. How do you know when it is time to take them out of the refrigerator? Do you check them to see if they have begun sprouting? This being my first year, I realize that I never gave that any thought. The other question is...what medium are you using? Two of mine came in a bark/charcoal/perlite mix and the other came in some mystery medium that I have never before seen (perhaps finely shredded oak leaf?).

Leafmite, as terracotta said, just check, they usually start little sprouts from the tubers when they are ready to be potted. I usually check in January and pot end of January or February. I am using my mix - Aussie gold mix with some perlite and little sand, I use Aussie gold for nearly all my terrestrials, seems to work well.

I did check them and they look good. I think they are getting ready to sprout so I will have to get some potting material this weekend. Thank you, again, for the help.

I just repotted my tray of P. Tongariro on March 7 and they were so prolific I had to pot up 2 trays. I use a mix of fine bark, charcoal, perlite, compost/loam and finely shredded moss. I top dress with moss (from the lawn). They overwinter in the unheated garage where they won't freeze but will stay cold, where I put them in trays off the ground and covered to prevent rodent incursion and ignore them all winter. That seems to work in the Pacific Northwest. This is a photo of my P. Tongariro stock last spring in bloom.

This is one that I don't have and they are absolutely gorgeous!
My garage gets too cold and I think Miami doesn't get cold enough so we have to use the fridge to get it right.
