My husband and I picked this up in Hawaii when we visited about a year ago.

I like to bloom my own orchids and when they were ringing me up (to mail the orchids back to the mainland) I specifically asked for one that wasn't in bud - and they looked at me so quizzically! I began to understand why they might have thought I was nuts when it sent up set after set of new leaves without an inflorescence...

But, finally - I have some blooms! This is my first Coelogyne and I love it. I don't think I will get any more, however, until I have a greenhouse because this thing takes up a lot of space. I think I will put it in a basket someday!

Even with a large g/h, these take up a lot of space.

I would advise against trying to mount it. First these get massive and very heavy. My pandurata was over growing a 20" basket, hanging by a very heavy wire wrapped around a large metal brace holding up the roof. One morning I walked it and the wire had unwrapped and was sitting on the table below.

Second these like high light and LOTS of moisture.

Here is a pic to show how big these get.

Enjoy your beauty!

Thank you - I just can't stop looking at it. The coloring is such true black it looks like someone spilled India Ink on the blooms.

Oh - and the basket sounds like a great idea. I will definitely try that when I have somewhere to hang it.

I'm attaching another picture - all of the flowers have opened.
