fimbriata?

Heres an odd little coelogyne that i think is a fimbriata, but i call it odd as its twice as big in all parts as my other fimbriata (the one usually seen in the uk). Also its a winter/early spring flowerer (first opened two days ago) whereas my standard fimbriata is a definite autumn flowerer.

Beautiful! Coelogyne are my favourite orchids and the ones that I seem to have the easiest time with although I am struggling with my pandurata which seems to like to abort new growths for some reason.
I will have to check into these they look very cool the picture reminds me of some Star Wars space craft lol..

Beautiful little flower you have there! I'm trying to determine whether it's fimbriata or not...I'm thinking pallens maybe, but I'm not too sure as the hairs on the side of the lip seem to be coloured and the centre of the lobe seems to be coloured as well. For pallens, both the hairs on the side and the centre of the lip should not be coloured...should!

Maybe provide us with some other angles of the flower, a more general view of the plant?

Twice as big does sound like something different from fimbriata...but you can never tell for sure

The shape of the pseudobulbs might help as well, so a picture of those is always welcome!

This is the same plant last spring, i aso thought it was pallens for a while but was reliably informed that it wasn't.

I'm sort of with Gravendell with these and think that a lot of these fimbriata/ovata/pallens etc plants are just variations withn the same species.

Hmmm this seems more conclusive, I definitely think it's pallens.

First of all, looking at last year's flower the signs for the colourless centre of the lip and hairs on the side of the lip are there, so that's a big plus. Also, pallens is more of a winter/early spring bloomer.

And more importantly I would think is the shape and simply the size of the plant...fimbriata has 2-4 cm high pseudobulbs most of the time, while this plant seems to be on the 10+cm side of things, no?

I agree with the variations, but I'm basing my knowledge on "Les Coelogynes" by Elisabeth & Jean-Claude George (yes it's in French, I'm sorry ) and I can honestly say their work is very exhaustive on the genus and they always seem to be spot on when it comes to small differences.

But then again, it doesn't matter that much of course; you have a lovely, healthy plant and beautiful flowers!

Thanks Yeri, it was Elisabeth George that suggested it wasn't a pallens with some explanation as to why.

I have a few other plants which are similar but dont seem to be going to flower until later, maybe march, will be interesting to see the differences if any.

I think based on Gravendells genetic work these may all be the same species anyway.
