Sue, No worries! Thanks very much! This flower is actually still open and looking good... I think these plants really should be more popular - they are really pretty!
Thanks, Todd. This is a really nice plant, mounted on a large piece of cork that copes well with the gangly growth habit (psuedobulbs spaced about 3-5cm apart).
It is kept really cool - and I find that so far plant's flowers colour better in really cool temps. I moved some Masdies to a 'cold side of cool' area from a cool area and the subsequent flowers seemed to have brighter colours.
That's beautiful, Judi! Though the IOSPE PHOTOS says its a warm grower - but it wouldn't surprise me too much to learn that that wasn't entirely correct.
A botanist in the Netherlands has sunk Coelogyne fuliginosa and Coelogyne ovalis into Coelogyne fimbriata. My Colegyne fimbriata has smaller flowers than the other two (I have plants labelled as Coelogyne ovalis and as Coelogyne fuliginosa). Her work may be available on the Internet. Do a Google search. Am typing from work where the keyboard letters have rubbed off so I tend to miss the keys. Doesn't worry a touch typist!
Keep well and kind regards
Mike
I heard there was always some confusion between fimbriata and fuliginosa - though I don't have experience with ovalis. I tend to agree more with the lumpers than the splitters, as I think there is more natural variation in species than is normally recognised. Morphological differences can vary greatly within a natural species.
