Yeah, it is such a pity.

Really nice blooms NYCorchidman! Too bad the smell is a turn-off, but then some bug or bat must love it!
That bloom is so interesting though I would live with it if it stunk like a skunk - sometimes that is interesting in itself!
Congrats - and you are right - the little 'bulb' is strange - hope someone explains that!

Thanks, Steve!
Yeah, I really like the flower on this plant. The shape and color...just the odor is not so attractive.

I've heard people report the scent of coelogyne can be quite strong, but so far, mine isn't too bad. I have to get fairly close to it. then again, there are still three more buds to open and that can add up I guess. lol

I would have to wait and see how bad it gets. haha

NYCorchidman:
Again - the blooms are so nice, I would put up with a lot of stink for them. They look like they would be worth putting on a nose-plug for! Are you going to try and pollinate this with itself? (I tend to cross everything that blooms).
Post another pic when the spike is in full bloom - I have not been too interested in Coelogyne, but this one really has my interest now (darn it!)
Thanks for the pic posts!

I would put a nose plug, except I wouldn't be able to enjoy wonderful fragrance coming from my other orchids if I did.

I have some miltoniopsis, fragrant phalaenopsis and cyclamen in bloom and they all smell very nice. wouldn't want to miss it!

No, I'm too lazy to make an attempt to creat hybrids. I would love to try with paphs in the future though.

Oh, by the way, two more flowers opened today and I see another two about to open. then there isn't any more, so there will be total of six flowers and I will post pictures when all are open.

Luckily, the odor hasn't gotten worse. just the same.
It sort of smells like paperwhite, which I don't like (cat pee to me), but at certain time of the day, it smells much more like something I don't want to mention here.

Who knows, you might love it when you smelled it.

Default All six flowers open now

Fortunately, the smell isn't much stronger than it was when there was three flowers open.
It is sort of sweet and sort of stinky...hmmm sounds confusing, but that's the best I can put it.
Top note: honey floral
Base note: felis urine

Gorgeous looking flowers. Such a shame about the smell.

Thanks, all!

The stinky scent is winding down. I guess that might mean flowers are about to go to the other side of the veil soon. lol
