The old pseudobulbs do not grow new roots. The plant will only get new roots when it grows new pseudobulbs, so the best time to repot is when new growths are starting. Try not to break too many roots, and be sure to leave several pseudobulbs on each division. It will probably take a couple years for it to get re-established.
