How to Root Coelogyne cristata?
Default How to Root Coelogyne cristata?

Hi all,

I've just picked up a huge Coelogyne cristata plant. The plant is literally overhanging around the 2 gallon pot and touching the floor. I know that cristata hates repotting and it's difficult to root the bulbs. Does anyone have any recommendation to root the bulbs quickly? I need to divide some of the plants and I'm sure I will break a few during my repotting. thanks!

The old pseudobulbs do not grow new roots. The plant will only get new roots when it grows new pseudobulbs, so the best time to repot is when new growths are starting. Try not to break too many roots, and be sure to leave several pseudobulbs on each division. It will probably take a couple years for it to get re-established.
