Bud, I hate to pick nits but please link to copyrighted photos on other sites rather than just copying and reposting them. Labeling them 'australian site' or whatever fails to properly attribute them to their sources.

Also, these photos don't look like they all belong to the same specific taxon and I don't think they establish the identity of Brenda's plant as cumingii. Many Coelogynes superficially look very similar and accurate ID isn't as simple as finding a photo that kind of looks the same. Just my

Very beautiful plant, Brenda, whatever it's called!

Well..Nat...this has also been done to me several times: three of my orchids was labeled as wrong by some other memebrs and I always do research on my plants after that and gather as many pictures from the net as much as possible...people just like to be vicious and label plants differently and accuse others of having hybrids instead of species...and they think they are the beyond all experts on orchids...I stick to labels and tags(altho before I tend to throw tags away because they were unsigtly) but joining this forum made me realize that tags can be also important altho it is not etched in stone because people like to change orchid names at a drop of a hat...so: I am just telling Brenda that she must stick to her tag unless a Royal Horticulturist big honcho tells her otherwise. and those pictures from the net is not used for commercial purposes and they have names on the pictures meaning they are used for purposes of discussion in this forum and we do not make money out of it...I dont know how to link= I only google the name of the plant and whatever pictures come out is used for this purpose.

Bud, I don't think I've seen anyone here being 'vicious' in questioning ID of plants, on the contrary some of our most knowledgable members are consistently the friendliest. This forum has utility as an informational resource and it benefits all of us to help correct IDs. It's not an offense or personal slight, only an adjustment of our collective body of knowledge.

Aside from attributing source and thus respecting intellectual property rights (which, BTW, are not limited to restrictions on commercial use), linking helps others assess the credibility of a cited source. Many growers mislabel plants on occasion, knowingly or not. Some are so bad about this that I don't accept an ID from them without further corroboration.

To insert links in OB posts there's a little button with the other formatting tools in the reply editor interface; it looks like a globe with two chain links and is 3 spaces to the left of the 'insert image' button. When you click it a scripted window pops up and you can type or paste hyperlink text into it. Once you go back to the regular text editor you can change the text displayed as the clickable hyperlink: This links to IOSPE's Coelogyne cumingii page. Hope this helps!

Sorry for the thread highjack, Brenda...

Thanks Nat. Bud, I understand your frustration....and some people really probably hesitate to post pictures in expectations that they get a run of people questioning its id etc. I guess in one way it may push us to learn and investigate etc, could also push us into being frustrated and lazy and say.....whatever it is I love it!! I think by pictures it is still hard to confirm identification 100%....would love to live next door to a coelogyne expert. Thanks for your input.

Nat, I understand your concerns out of respect for copyrighted items...and you are not "nit- picking" you are merely stating a fact.... and thats very concientious of you...
but as far as tags=from this time onwards...I question anyones credentials before they say I have the wrong orchid tag...if they can prove it beyond reasonable doubt and without malice intended...and if they say its not a coelogine then they must have the responsibility to research all over the world what the real name of the plant is...or just shut their piehole about it if they cant give a solution...posting a problem with no solution in hand is vicious and creates discord...I have three people banned for doing that to my plants...if they dont have palpable proof and it is only inside their opinionated heads: they have no bussiness disclaiming any plants tag

* I guess youre right : if I use their picture even if it is just for forum discussion the least I can do is promote the site by giving the link...to at least help generate population for the page

Took a close up that turned out pretty good. Not that it will help to determine what it is for sure....
