Hello all
This is my first time starting a thread so lets hope I can get it right.
Dendrochilum apoense is from Mindanao in the Philippines. This is an extremely rare orchid and I only know of four people, including myself, that grow it in the UK. There are a few people with this plant in Germany.
A couple of plants were imported into Germany from the Philippines back in 2005-2006 and were labelled as
Dendrochilum sp at the time. Malcolm Perry obtained a plant, flowered it and sent a picture to Henrik Pedersen (the authority on Philippine
Dendrochilum). Henrik identified it as this species. This plant is a division of Malcolm's plant. This was the first time
Dendrochilum apoense had been seen since the holotype was collected. Nothing is known about the habitat of this plant, all we know is that it is from Mount Apo (as its name suggests).
Be careful of a couple of mislabelled plants out there on the internet.
Not an easy
Dendrochilum species to grow!
Cheers
Trey
