As
Coelogyne barbata florescem do outono para o inverno com até 14 flores que duram cerca de duas semanas e possuem 5-8 cm de largura.
As flores são perfumadas com um aroma almiscarado.
Planta é encontrada crescendo sobre rochas na Floresta Submontana do Himalaia no nordeste da Índia, Butão, Nepal, China Myanamar superior e em altitudes de 1000-1800 metros.
Aqui no Brasil, inicia a produção da haste floral em Agosto/Setembro ficando vários meses em hibernação com a haste floral, reiniciando o cíclo de florasção somente um mês antes de florir (Abril/Maio), devendo-se protejer a haste comtra da água durante esse periodo.
O nome da espécie é decorrente a seu labelo franjado.
