I don't stop watering in the winter, if the weather is cool I will water less often If the weather is warm I will water in the early morning to give the plant a chance to dry before nightfall. the plant will be watered just about every day during the warm Summer months with the news growths . Both my plants grow well in full shade.. I will stop watering and move the plants under cover when the flowers start opening as they tend to spoil very quickly if wet These plants also seem to grow well if no more than 600 mm above ground level as this is where the humidity is highest in my shadehouse. Thank you so much Des,you have been a big help for me and I do appreciate that very much.If that is ok with you I have a few more questions?When is cool in your place how often do you water?,do you grow it in pot or a basket? and what medium is it in? I live in California and summers are very dry and hot and winters are not very cold (40-55).Is it important to keep cristata cool during summer time?

Our temp can go down to 2 degrees C in the winter and our summers have a high of about 36 degrees C ( I dont know what the conversion is to F.) Our winter days can be quite warm so I will water in the early morning during winter to allow the plant to dry off before nightfall which in the winter can bring a drop in temp to 2 c in the early morning . During these periods of large temperature fluctuations I will spray the plant with a contact fungicide every two weeks to keep fungal infections at bay
MY large plant is growing in a plastic washing basket (my wife still wonders what happened to her wash basket )The other is growing in a 350 mm pot with additional holes drilled into the sides to allow for air flow.. I have always planted these plants below the rim of the pot as this creates a humidity trap which a newly planted division needs in order to establish itself . I have also noticed some growers will cover the top of the pot with a sheet of glass so as to trap the humidity.
I have often seen C.Cristata grown in wood slat baskets and hung up out of the humid area which is closer to the floor of the shadehouse. These Plants grown like this rarely do well.
