Spikes or bulb? Male
Default Spikes or bulb?

we have a C.cristata that have either spikes or new bulbs. Attached is a picture. Does anyone know what kind it is, will it be a flower or "just" another bulb? Its the "thing" in the pink circle. We haven' had it for to long yet. And its the first one.

I have a huge Coelogyne cristata (i don't know the correct abreviation for 'Coelogyne', but 'C.' is for Cattleya only) growing outdoors; due humidity (and heat) excess in my home town, it never blooms; cristata needs a clear dry (dry at the point the pbulbs became strongly ribbed) and cool period during the winter to induce blooming; your cristata pbulbs appears in very good conditions, then I think the 'thing' is 'just another' pbulb!

For me is a bulb. If the spikes in the Coelogyne cristata are similar to the same in the Coelogyne flaccida they shoud be more brown.

Default spike vs. pbulb

These pics (I toke today morning) show a spike and a new gowth in the same Coelogyne testacea, showing the differences. As Massimo stated, the spike is more brown.

Thanx all for clearing this out for me. If the second photo is the beginning of a new bulb, I think we have three of them now.....guess we have to wait a bit more before we get the spikes....:-)
