Default Coelogyne Picta (Very chuffed!)

Hi all

Didn't even realise this was flowering until my wife saw it!!

Bought in June 09. So must be in good position....

Name tag says Coelogyne Picta, but haven't found another photo to compare it. So if anyone thinks it looks like another type, let me know.

Cheers

John

Hey John,

Your plant is Coelogyne flaccida.

Picta means spotted and I don't know any spotted Coelogynes.

Are you using leaves for your medium? Or is it from the tree above?

That's a pretty one, John. I have to say that it doesn't look anything like my Coel. flaccida!

Hi Jaxorchidman

Very slow reply but the leaves are from the tree above. I don't have a shade house but all my outside orchids are under this tree, in a back corner.

Hopefully I'll get this to c. to flower again next year.

Cheers

John

More likely Coe nitida with the snow white lip and yellow and orange markings in the throat.

picta means painted, not spotted. it can referr to any type of markings, including spots, stripes, or just a splash of color. this is probably not flaccida, and definitely not nitida. I've never seen picta, so I really can't say if that's what it is.
