Coelogyne Mayeriana - tell me about her Male
Default Coelogyne Mayeriana - tell me about her

I have a Ceologyne Mayeriana in an outdoor greenhouse. The GH is only 2.5 seasons and everything is brought inside in the fall. The days get very warm in there, sometimes over 90 degrees F. It is very humid and there's a fan blowing all day but shuts down in the evenings.

What can you tell me about this plant? It is blooming size, but hasn't bloomed yet. It gets bright light for at least 6 hrs a day too

Thanks....

It does like to be on the warm side. The Baker culture sheet lists temperature range from 64 deg F to 97 deg F. So Phalaenopsis conditions or warmer. Brigherter than a Phal, though... I'd say filtered sun or bright shade. Native to Malaya, Java, Borneo at low elevation. So hot and humid,

dont let it dry out completely. I have killed more of this genus by assuming they can handle a little dry and then they are toast.

She's blooming, but I think my smeller is broken because I don't detect any scent.

It's beauty~

I no longer have the species, I did note fragrance at some point but no longer recall how much. Even for a species with a reputation for fragrance, some cultivars might not have it. And where it exists, it may be on and off... you'll have to sniff at different times of day or evening. So maybe you'll find some fragrance and maybe not. Enjoy the beauty, fragrance is just a bonus when you get some.

OK Roberta, I'll bring my sniffer out several times during the day and evening to see if I can detect a fragrance. I do agree however, the fragrance is nice, but I enjoy all my plants for their leaves, healthy growth and I love the roots. Flowers top it all off.
Stay well my friend....

Very nice!

Sorry you are not detecting fragrance. It is crazy how difficult it is to find a fragrant specimen of many species orchids that were originally fragrant. I have a young Phal schilleriana and it has just started a spike...I really hope that it will be fragrant but...it probably will not be.
