Dave, there are apparently 3 varieties of Coelogyne speciosa. Do you know which variety yours is? Incidentally a lady named Gravendeel in the Netherlands (?University of Leyden) did a revision of the section "Speciosae" of Coelogyne and it was available as a download on the Internet. May be a nice addition to your collection of orchid data. There is also one that she did on the section Fimbriatae. A Google search for "Revisions in the Genus Coelogyne" may turn it up. they do have pictures. If anybody takes this up please let us know the website address. Good luck

Anyone of you has a Coryanthes speciosa?I love it and I'd like to see an article about this beautiful orchid(in the site)....In italy it's so rare!.

Just in case I had given the wrong info in my previous message I did the Google search for "Revisions in the genus coelogyne" and it turned up quite a few sites featuring Ms Gravendeel with some very good photos. Mike, in the website I posted you get the whole scientific publication (actually her PhD Thesis with several chapters) in PDF format: 208 pp. some drawings but almost no pictures... however the information given is very interesting. I would say, any Coelogyne collector/lover should have and read it :)

the title of the Thesis is: Reorganizing the Orchid Genus Coelogyne by Barbara Gravendeel. The last 3 chapter are the publications with the revisions of the sections Speciosae, Fuliginosae and Verrucosae

Ramon, do the Google search and there is one site for Leiden university which has in its addres the words "\pubs". Look at that one and you will see pictures. I am surprised that you say that there were no pictures in the website that you gave because when I downloaded the revisions from another website, I got pictures. I have downloaded this morning a picture from the website "\pubs" a picture of Coelogyne carinata because mine is flowering now (just with one flower!:biggrin: ) and when I acquired it I keyed it out to be coelogyne fragrans. Last week the lady who gave me the division told me that I was wrong and that it was carinata because she looked in "Botanica's Pocket Orchids" and said that it was carinata because the photos showed that carinata had a "pointed" lip and fragrans a "round" lip. Being the methodical guy that I am :) I rechecked in Clayton's book (where I had keyed it out) and read what he said about carinata. In a note he says that there are intergrades between carinata and fragrans suggesting some interbreeding in the wilds. So I am changing my label (and my mind! :biggrin: )

I meant almost no pictures in the sense that it is not an article for orchids fans with 100s of pictures ;) there are some, at least one per especies revised...

another question, you said you have Clayton's book... could oyu please check for me what he says about Coelogyne schilleriana? I love this species, but have some discussions with teh owners of two orchids nurseries here, who just insist it does not exist at all, and it is either Pleione or i don't remember what else (I think Lycaste), but even Gravendeel mentions this species...
