Our Dendrochilum Season Has Begun

I just noticed the Cyrtostachys (sealing wax palms) in the first photo. Those are bright red!

Because the Dendrochilum wenzelii is taking so long to bloom I missed your posts.
D. wenzelii is getting close, green tassels are are begining to stick up out of the leaves.
They'll be turning red soon.
Then, I'll post pics.

I was referring to the 2018 eruption that covered about 1/3 of our subdivision.
The inundation by the gasses evolved had serious effects on almost everything growing in our yard.
It wasn't apparent until about 2 years later [now], the 2nd growing season post eruption, when everything from fruit trees to orchids have begun to obviously recover.

But yeah, we are having another eruption right now.
It began a week or two ago, but is confined to the summit of Kilauea for now.
Hopefully, it will stay there.
One does have to keep in mind that this is part and parcel of living on an active volcano.
We moved here knowing that we were going into these conditions.
It keeps life here as interesting as life in Alaska was.
We simply gambled that it would not have serious effects on us in our lifetimes.
So far, we're still on track, even though it was a close call.

One plus we didn't count on is that a political situation made our insurance company give us a very good payoff, almost 1/2 of our purchase cost.
Didn't ask for it.
They just came around, looked the place over, and sent us some checks.
We fixed and added a lot of things and still have a very sizable balance in the bank to work with yet.
So far, all considered, being her is a very big plus for us, even if we don't add in the insulation we have from the epidemic and its consequences.

Those Cyrtostachys rendas [red palms] are one of the reasons I wanted this place.
I'm a bit immune to them right now because I spend a lot of time looking at them almost every morning as I sit on our lanai and drink my coffee.
I mistakenly called them red bamboo one time and still use that term around home.

They are also showing substantial recovery now.
A whole bunch of young palms have begun to sprout up around their base.
They're pushing being 20 ft. tall, almost 1/2 their expected mature height.
I can't wait to see them.
The pic is from this morning, just as the sun began to come up.

Well, the Dendch. wenzelii is finally ready for a pic.

It had seemed so long in blooming that I was going to disclaim my "growing season" remark in the title.
But, It's only been 3 months since posting the D. magnum's pic.
They did seem to bloom much closer together before.

The plant is on a 12" raft and almost 3 ft across, leaf tip to leaf tip.
And, it's heavy.
I hadn't realized how big it had gotten.
It and the other two Dendrochilums have been sitting on a low rock wall around the baseiof the tree.

I'm quite happy with it and the other two Dedndrochilums.
I accidentally broke 2 flower stems off while pulling tree leaves out from in the plant.
