Dendrochilum magnum in bloom
Easy to grow and flower, I bought this as Dendrochilum magnum many years ago. A couple of people have since told me that they think it's actually Dendrochilum latifolium. But I noticed today that Orchids Limited (where my plant was purchased) still has it listed as magnum. So I guess I'll leave it at that. If you like the smell of industrial soap, then you may enjoy this one's perfume. Mosquitoes are very fond of it (which is probably not the greatest sales pitch).

Another possible description of the fragrance... I recall the venue facilities manager storming into the display room of the show that I have helped run for years, complaining that people were smoking clove cigarettes in there. The aroma was traced to a bunch of beautiful Cal Orchid Ddc. magnum plants in full bloom.
So... maybe clove cigarettes?

Yes, that is a good description. Maybe clove with some hay mixed in. It's not a bad smell. But it does remind me of an herbal scent instead of a typical floral fragrance, and something you would find in a more masculine type of soap.
