Red face Brasavola Susan Fuchs potting help

My specimen came in sphag but looks way too wet. Does it require coarse bark as other brasavola?

"The plant" does not control what potting medium it's in, per se.

The trick is knowing enough about your temperature, humidity, air movement and watering habits to decide what potting medium will provide the conditions the particular plant needs.

If you are successful with other brassavolas, you'd probably be best to duplicate that.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Different potting media require different care. Moss generally should not be watered to the point of saturation, except for orchids that use water rapidly, or environments in which the moss dries out rapidly. The usual method of watering sphagnum is to lightly moisten it so it is evenly damp but not sopping wet. In this way there is still a lot of air at the roots for the plant. Then water again when the moss dries out.

Brassavola nodosa does not use water rapidly. In habitat it can have a months-long dry spell with no dew. In growth it does like water, so sphagnum can be used if you take care not to keep it too wet.

For now, put the plant where the moss will be likely to dry rapidly - a sunny window?

that is so the wrong plant to grow in moss.... it can be done, but moss can keep the roots of the brassavola too wet and this plant requires a full dry plus a couple of days tween watering. Depending on your location, culture environment and experience. Generally speaking nodosa's like mounts or baskets so they can dry very fast between watering. Pls provide more details as to your location (canada?) , plant environment, pictures etc for more information
