Cattleya amethystoglossa- Repot

What a koinkidink... I picked up a 2 inch coerulea (brazilian import ) at redlands this year. The batch I looked at had a couple and nicest one was already rotting from excess water, I always look at rhyzome and roots when picking recently repotted plants. Replaced the plant with another clean one. Was concerned about the plant until I recently noticed a new growth coming up and now am comfortable with it.

I have always thought that the mark of good catt species grower was to nurse an amethystoglossa from seedling to monster blooming size. Have nursed several 4n crosses from H&R, from 2 inch to bloom and were very nice. Am hoping to do that again, this time although in a not as easy environment.

I think timing for repotting this species (and all bifoliates for that matter!) is the key to success. As you mentioned early in the thread, repotting during active root growth is critical. Plants can take years to recover or simply die if repotted at the wrong time.
