It's that time of year for L purpuratas. Here are two plants that are blooming for the first time for me. The red one was sold as L. purpurata tipo, the flamed one was labelled as l. purpurata trilabelo.

I like them both, but I expected the trilabelo to be peloric, and I thought that 'tipo' would be the original form that was first described. I haven't been able to confirm either name.

I understand that Brazilians have an extensive naming system for these beauties, and I would like to get educated as to Brazilian and AOS conventions. And brag a little about how nice they look.

I just re-discovered Estacion Seca's report on a talk by Amy Chung Jacobson, which he posted on 5/22/16 on OB. I don't know how to point to it. This was his opening sentence for a very thorough report, including forms and colors:
On Thursday, May 19, 2016, Amy Chung Jacobsen, AOS Judge, from Los Altos, California, spoke to the Desert Valley Orchid Society on Laelia purpurata Lindl. 1852.
Unfortunately her talk didn't help me with the forms that I have, so I am still seeking enlightenment.
