Default Blc. Nobile's Bruno Bruno

Blc. Nobile's Bruno Bruno (now it's Rhyncattleanthe I think) is a brazilian favorite created by very succesful orchid enthusiast Sergio Barani in 1999.

It's a cross between C. Chocolate Drop and Blc. George Suzuki. There are several named clones and this one in particular is called "Pegasus".

It's growing on my window sill together with all my cattleyas, and it's the first time it's blooming for me. I'll post pictures once the flowers are open!

Thank you! It was repotted less than a year ago and is growing on bark. There really is some leca that I usually mix to create air pockets, but that's about it.

At this point I can't even move the pot. The roots have grown through the draining holes and have attached to the tiles. Some of the aerial roots have also reached the wall and are growing there as well, it's insane.

Most of the Bruno Bruno varieties have this deep red wine color, just like their parent, the C. Chocolate Drop.

I bought this one because it was supposedly a much brighter color, only to be disappointed when it opened since it was not at all different from the other Bruno Bruno I own.

But, as it turns out, I was wrong! A couple days later and it is fading to a bright red and the lips are turning purple. It is a very nice contrast against the green leaves. I have 3 more sheaths, can't wait for the next flush of blooms.

A differente clone ("Red Passion") is now in bloom. It's not as striking but a lot more fragrant.

And there are more buds on their way
