I didn't put this in pests and diseases because I'm not so sure it is. Camille, move it if you need to.

I got this last spring and it has grown like a weed, bloomed it's head off this fall! I had it very close to the lights and it sunburned. After it bloomed, I moved it further away from the lights. The leaves are discolored on the top only. They are not soft. If it is spreading, it's doing it mighty slowly.

Roberta and I have been chatting about it. We're of the same opinion but wondered what you all had to say.

I bought a plant exactly like yours this year, and when I looked more closely at her I found a tiny snail that eats them from the roots.

If they are not expanding, and no new spots are forming, I would not be concerned.

If you fear that they might be expanding too slowly to notice, you can take a marker and mark the edges of the spots so you can confirm whether they are expanding or not.

If more spots are continuing to appear, you might have a different issue. Stress can cause a plant to succumb to pests or disease that it would normally resist.

Bush snails...I just eliminated two from my tank. I bought two new orchids for my tank over the winter and I guess I got a bonus.

possible nutritional deficiency... ever use epsom salts mixed with your fertilizer?

I occasionally use Cal mag. I'll give it a shot of epsom salts. I have egg shells in the media. That's something I hadn't thought of. Thanks!

It is possibly that a nutrient deficiency might be contributing to this. If your plants get quite a bit of light and have warm conditions, they tend to grow more quickly and need more nutrients. It is always surprising to me that many fertilizers are formulated with the assumption that other nutrients are going to make their way into the soil somehow. Along with the eggshells, I also add the occasional dose of ironite and Epsom salts.

Good luck!

after you use epsom salts (magnesium sulphate), you will only see its effect on new growth, it will not change existing reddish tint on older bulbs....
Dosage that I have used with good benefits and no issues is a TBS per gallon, every couple of months or so... if the plant is in active growth and has a bulb growing with a reddish tint, the epsom salt will change it to solid green within a few days, its a remarkable change.
